Ingredients:

For Saffron Layer (Orange):

  • 1 cup orange segments (oranges, mandarins, or tangerines)
  • 1/2 cup papaya, cubed
  • 1 tablespoon honey or sugar (optional)

For White Layer:

  • 1 cup coconut chunks or desiccated coconut
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt (curd)
  • 1-2 tablespoons honey or sugar (optional)

For Green Layer:

  • 1 cup green fruits (kiwi, green grapes, or green apple), cubed
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • A pinch of black salt (kala namak) for extra flavor

For Garnish (optional):

  • Fresh mint leaves
  • Pomegranate seeds

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Saffron Layer (Orange):

    • In a bowl, combine the orange segments and papaya chunks.
    • If you like it sweeter, you can drizzle honey or sprinkle sugar over the fruits. Toss gently.
  2. Prepare the White Layer:

    • In a separate bowl, combine the coconut chunks or desiccated coconut with plain yogurt.
    • If you prefer it sweeter, add honey or sugar and mix well.
  3. Prepare the Green Layer:

    • In another bowl, combine the green fruit chunks (kiwi, green grapes, or green apple) with lemon juice.
    • Sprinkle a pinch of black salt for added flavor.
  4. Assemble the Salad:

    • Take individual serving glasses or a clear, transparent bowl.
    • Start by adding the saffron layer (orange) to the bottom of the serving glasses or bowl.
    • Next, gently spoon in the white layer on top of the orange layer.
    • Finish by adding the green layer on the top.
  5. Garnish (optional):

    • If you like, you can garnish the tricolor fruit salad with fresh mint leaves and pomegranate seeds.
  6. Chill and Serve:

    • Refrigerate the tricolor fruit salad for about 30 minutes before serving. This will help the flavors meld together and keep the salad cool and refreshing.

Tricolor fruit salad is a beautiful and patriotic way to enjoy a variety of fruits. It's not only visually appealing but also delicious and healthy. Enjoy it as a dessert or a refreshing side dish on special occasions or national holidays.
