Honey and Ginger Chicken Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (450g) boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for a gluten-free option)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to your spice preference)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for cooking)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Chopped green onions and sesame seeds for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Marinade:

    • In a bowl, combine honey, soy sauce, grated ginger, minced garlic, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes. Mix well to create the marinade.
  2. Marinate the Chicken:

    • Place the chicken pieces in a separate bowl, season with a pinch of salt and black pepper, and then pour half of the honey and ginger marinade over the chicken. Reserve the remaining marinade for later.
    • Toss the chicken to ensure it's well coated with the marinade.
    • Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, allowing the chicken to marinate. For a more intense flavor, you can marinate for a few hours or overnight.
  3. Cook the Chicken:

    • In a large skillet or pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
    • Remove the marinated chicken from the bowl and add it to the hot skillet. Discard the marinade used for marinating the chicken.
  4. Sauté the Chicken:

    • Cook the chicken for about 4-5 minutes per side or until it's cooked through and has a nice browned exterior.
  5. Add Reserved Marinade:

    • Reduce the heat to medium and pour the reserved honey and ginger marinade over the cooked chicken. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and coat the chicken.
  6. Serve:

    • Once the sauce has thickened and the chicken is well coated, remove it from the heat.
    • Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds if desired.
  7. Enjoy:

    • Serve your honey and ginger chicken over steamed rice, quinoa, or with your favorite vegetables for a complete meal.

This honey and ginger chicken dish is a delightful combination of sweet, savory, and slightly spicy flavors. It's a quick and easy recipe that's perfect for a delicious weeknight dinner.
