Steamed Brocolli

Ingredients:

  • 1 head of fresh broccoli
  • Water
  • Salt (optional)
  • Butter (optional)
  • Lemon juice (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Broccoli:

    • Start by selecting a fresh broccoli head. Rinse it thoroughly under cold water. Trim the stem and remove any tough, woody parts. You can also peel the stem and use it.
  2. Cut into Florets:

    • Use a knife to cut the broccoli head into bite-sized florets. You can cut the florets evenly to ensure they cook uniformly.
  3. Steam the Broccoli:

    • Fill a large pot with a few inches of water and place a steamer basket or steamer insert inside. Make sure the water does not touch the bottom of the steamer. Bring the water to a boil over high heat.
  4. Add the Broccoli:

    • Carefully place the broccoli florets into the steamer basket. Cover the pot with a lid.
  5. Steam:

    • Steam the broccoli for about 3-5 minutes, or until it becomes tender. The exact cooking time will vary depending on the size of the florets and your desired level of doneness. You can test the broccoli's doneness by inserting a fork or knife into a floret; it should pierce easily.
  6. Season (Optional):

    • Once the broccoli is done, you can season it to your liking. Sprinkle a pinch of salt, add a pat of butter, or drizzle some lemon juice over the steamed broccoli for extra flavor.
  7. Serve:

    • Transfer the steamed broccoli to a serving plate or bowl. Serve it as a side dish alongside your main course.
