Shakarkand Ki Chaat

Ingredients:

  • 2 medium-sized sweet potatoes (shakarkand)
  • 1/2 cup boiled and cubed chickpeas
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onions
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped fresh coriander leaves
  • 1/4 cup pomegranate seeds
  • 1/4 cup roasted peanuts (optional)
  • 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped (adjust to your spice preference)
  • 1 teaspoon chaat masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon roasted cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to your spice preference)
  • Salt to taste
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Tamarind chutney or mint chutney (optional)
  • Sev (crispy chickpea noodles, for garnish)
  • Fresh mint leaves for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Boil Sweet Potatoes:

    • Wash the sweet potatoes and boil them until they are soft and fully cooked. You can boil them in a pressure cooker or on the stovetop. Let them cool, then peel and chop them into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Prepare the Chaat Mix:

    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the boiled and cubed sweet potatoes, chickpeas, chopped onions, tomatoes, fresh coriander leaves, pomegranate seeds, and roasted peanuts (if using).
  3. Season the Chaat:

    • Add the finely chopped green chilies, chaat masala, roasted cumin powder, red chili powder, and salt to the bowl.
  4. Add Lemon Juice:

    • Squeeze the juice of one lemon over the chaat mix. This adds a delightful tang to the chaat.
  5. Toss and Mix:

    • Gently toss and mix all the ingredients together until well combined. Adjust the seasoning as needed.
  6. Serve the Chaat:

    • Transfer the Shakarkand Ki Chaat to serving plates or bowls.
  7. Garnish:

    • Drizzle a little tamarind chutney or mint chutney if desired.
    • Garnish with a generous helping of sev (crispy chickpea noodles) and fresh mint leaves.
  8. Serve:

    • Serve the Shakarkand Ki Chaat immediately as a delicious and healthy snack.
